As a family who moved a lot (from Sydney to Mozambique and many places in between), it meant settling into new environments often, and I found the best way to do that was to make each house feel like home. For me, this always included a veggie garden. Having my hands in dirt makes me happy. My love of edible gardening led me to studying landscape design. The natural progression from here was to turn my attention to interior design, which then evolved to incorporate exteriors (had to keep my hands in the dirt). This led to further study in design, styling and the fabulous world of colour.
Design makes me happy. People make me happy. I believe life’s too short not to give business or home dreams a crack – and what’s not fun about colour, the perfect throw cushion or a stunning indoor plant? Founding studioFRWD where I get to combine all these bits made perfect sense. Just because I don’t take myself too seriously doesn’t mean I don’t take your space seriously. My true joy is creating sanctuaries that make your home somewhere you love to be.
You’ve read this word a few times by now: collaboration. A seamless result is achieved when a balance is struck between your taste, needs, and my (lovely-but-stern-when-needed) guiding hand. Prior to the initial consultation, I’ll provide you with a questionnaire to gain an understanding of your interior aspirations, lifestyle, budget and how we can enhance your space. Once we’re on the same page, I’ll develop a brief to map out exactly what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. From here, it’s time for the fun stuff. I’ll develop a concept and work with you each step of the way – no matter the project size – to ensure you’re as involved (or uninvolved) as you’d like to be with the implementation.
Perhaps you’re a young family wanting to renovate and transform an existing home to keep up with a growing family, or newly single, wanting your space to reflect the next chapter of your life. Often, an integral part of my job is to take the aesthetics of two people, and combine them to create a space that feels like home to everyone who lives there.
No matter who you are, I work with clients who share certain values: trust, connection and communication. Delivering a space that you feel proud of and comfortable in requires an intimate knowledge of who you are and what you need. Let’s open a bottle of red and start chatting.
A hand poured candle on a book, thick with photographic pages. Squishing small toes into the soft living room rug. Glasses clinking to celebrate the first dinner party you’ve been able to host comfortably and proudly. Have a peruse through the projects I’ve worked on lately and witness the transformations my client’s spaces have been through.
